What Does a Slow Tail Wag Mean?
Share
A wagging tail doesn't always mean a happy dog. Speed, height and the rest of the body all matter.
Reading the slow wag
- Slow wag at medium height: often means your dog is unsure and still deciding how they feel about something.
- Loose, wide, fast wag with a wiggly body: usually friendly and happy.
- High, stiff, fast wag: often arousal or alertness, not necessarily friendliness.
- Low or tucked tail: usually worry or fear.
What you can do
When you see a slow wag, give your dog a moment. Let them approach at their own pace instead of reaching toward them.
