Why Does My Dog Lean on Me?
Share
Many dogs press their body against your legs and let you hold some of their weight. It's often called "the lean."
What it usually means
- Closeness and comfort. Leaning is a simple way for a dog to stay in contact with someone they trust.
- Seeking reassurance. Some dogs lean more in new places, at the vet, or around loud noises.
- Asking for attention. Leaning often gets pets, so dogs repeat it.
Reading the whole dog
A relaxed lean with a soft face and loose tail is usually affection. A lean with a tucked tail, ears back, or trembling suggests your dog feels uneasy and is using you as a safe spot.
What you can do
Enjoy it! If your dog seems nervous when leaning, give them a little space from whatever is bothering them and keep your own body calm.
