Why Does My Dog Scoot on the Floor?
Share
Scooting is when a dog sits and drags its rear end across the floor using its front legs. It looks funny, but it usually means something back there is itchy or uncomfortable.
Common causes
- Anal gland problems. Full or irritated anal glands are one of the most common reasons.
- Something stuck. Bits of debris or matted fur can bother a dog.
- Skin irritation or allergies.
- Parasites such as worms.
When to call the vet
A single scoot can be nothing. Frequent scooting, licking the area, a bad smell, swelling, or blood are good reasons to book a vet visit. Anal gland issues are simple for a vet to check.
